Every day, VEAP’s Food Program is providing access to fresh and healthy foods for families that need it.
One year ago, VEAP launched its mobile food pantry. Since then, over 50,000 pounds of food have been distributed at Season’s Park Apartments, Southgate Apartments, Normandale Community College and Dar Al-Farooq. These distributions are providing access to healthy foods that residents and students might not be able to afford.
Within the next several weeks we will begin distributions at South Education Center (SEC) in Richfield. Students at SEC also participate in VEAP’s Student Hunger Collaborative which provides weekend food. With the addition of access to fresh foods through the mobile food pantry, students will be even better equipped to perform well academically.
The mobile food pantry will begin distributions at a low-income housing complex in Edina later this spring. VEAP’s relationship with City of Edina staff is leading to more visibility and support for low-income households.
