School is now fully in swing and the weather is (finally) cooling off. As students gear up for months of learning and families start to prepare for the rush of the holiday season, many of the individuals with whom VEAP works have expressed their needs for items outside of food. That’s why we’re looking for gift cards to help support them!
Gift cards from stores like Target or Walmart can be used flexibly by families to buy miscellaneous items they need—clothing, medicine, or simply something fun for their kids. VISA gift cards are a great option, too, and ensure individuals can access whatever they may need when times are tough.
Our social services team is laser-focused on ensuring everyone that comes through our doors has the support they need. Check out a few recent stories to see why gift cards are so critical to our work.
- Daniel originally met with our Social Services team to fill out his energy assistance application. During their chat, Daniel also shared other concerns he had—most importantly, his health. After paying his mortgage with his social security income, Daniel is only left with $100 to meet all his other needs, including purchasing his medications. VEAP was able to give Daniel a Walgreens gift card so he could make sure he can purchase his much needed medications for the month.
- Janet lost her job earlier this year, and her unemployment benefits were quickly dwindling. Jana had a job interview lined up when she met with our team, but she was nervous since she didn’t have any clothes that fit her after a long period of stress and depression that led to changes in her body. VEAP’s team gave Jana $40 in Target gift cards so she could pick out the right outfit for her upcoming interview. We wanted to make sure she felt confident. Jana shared that she was very thankful to receive the extra support—and her interview went well!
- Ramona arrived at VEAP’s doors with her 6 and 7 year old children. She needed emergency assistance with housing after fleeing her abusive partner. Ramona met with our team, who mobilized our network to locate a shelter bed for her and her kids. But, the only bed open was over 40 miles away—and money was tight for Ramona. VEAP was able to gift Ramona both a gas card and a McDonalds card so she could both fill her car with gas, and enjoy a warm meal once she made it to the shelter. We made sure her kids had lots of snacks for the ride, too, with donations from our food pantry.
Will you consider supporting our team with a donation of gift cards? We welcome $10 – $40 gift cards from any store. We’ll make they make it into the hands of families in our community who need the extra boost.
To make it simple, here are some options to directly buy gift cards online and send to VEAP:
