When planning your garden this year, consider planting a little extra for VEAP and donating your excess harvest to our Food Pantry! VEAP places a high priority on having a variety of nutritious, healthy, fresh foods available to participants.
Easy to grow vegetables such as green beans, carrots, onions and zucchini are appreciated. Or consider more culturally specific vegetables such as Thai peppers, poblanos and tomatillos. We also love to receive fresh herbs: cilantro, parsley, basil and Thai basil. For maximum freshness, it’s ideal to deliver the produce on the day of harvest –simply brush off the dirt and deliver as is. No need to make an appointment; you can pull up to Door 4 behind our building Monday – Friday from 9 – 4:30 p.m.
VEAP participants identify cost as the main barrier to having fresh and healthy foods available daily for their families. Those who use our services are able to access the food pantry twice per month, and in the weeks when they don’t come to VEAP, they have fewer fresh fruits and vegetables on hand.
Many local businesses and congregations have developed giving gardens with the intention of providing fresh produce for VEAP. To learn more about donating fresh produce to VEAP or if you have any questions, please email Caley: [email protected] Thank you!
