What do you do when your employer can’t pay you?

August 4, 2017

Nick works at a local restaurant and supports his family by picking up extra shifts. On his last payday, he received notification from his bank that his paycheck had no funds and his account was now overdrawn. Nick spoke with the restaurant owner, who stated he was closing the restaurant and that he did not have any money and would not be able to pay the previously worked hours or the current pay period. Nick is owed approximately $1,500 dollars from the two pay periods. When Nick turned to VEAP, Ricardo, VEAP Community Health Worker, connected Nick with referrals to community resources to resolve his issue. In the meantime, Nick’s family will use the VEAP food pantry to ensure they have access to nutritious food, school supplies and support while he finds new employment.
