VEAP embraces diversity and is committed to pursuing a more just, equitable and inclusive society for all people. As a community-based nonprofit, we have a responsibility to break down barriers, address historical and current inequities, and proactively engage all people in our community.
With the close of Pride month, VEAP is digging deeper into the lived experiences of the LGBTQ+ community in Minnesota. We are committed to better understanding how we can close the gap on current discrimination and inequities this group of people faces. We invite you to learn more in this infographic.
Interested in learning how you can get involved?
- Consider learning more about pronouns. VEAP has made an intentional commitment to include gender pronouns throughout our organization because we believe that referring to a person by their chosen name and pronouns shows respect, acceptance and inclusion: all important VEAP values! Studies also show that using correct pronouns improves mental health outcomes for LGBTQ+ youth.
- Learn more about the fight for LGBTQ+ equality in Minnesota. Out North: MNLGBTQ History, a freely-streaming documentary, explores the untold past of Minnesota’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community and celebrates the strides the state has made since the gay liberation movement began in the 1970s.
- Get involved with local organizations supporting queer and trans youth. Minnesota is home to a wonderful network of non-profits and clinics working to support LGBTQ youth (and adults!) with housing, health care, education and more. Peruse this list of organizations and consider how you might support their efforts: https://www.reclaim.care/what-we-do/resources-for-queer-and-trans-youth.html
