Apply for rent assistance

VEAP utilizes multiple sources of funding for our rent and utility assistance program. When applying for assistance at VEAP, our social services staff will conduct a screening to determine the most appropriate ways to assist each household, which may include financial assistance, referral to the RentHelpHennepin portal, and/or other assistance.

Rental Assistance in Bloomington, Edina, Richfield & Minneapolis

If you need help paying rent in Bloomington, Edina, Richfield, or Minneapolis, VEAP may be able to help. We understand that financial emergencies can happen unexpectedly, and our team is here to support eligible renters in our service area.

Who Can Apply for Rental Assistance?

VEAP is currently accepting rental assistance applications from renters who live in:

  • Bloomington, MN

  • Edina, MN

  • Richfield, MN

  • Minneapolis, MN

If you live outside of these communities, we encourage you to search for local rental assistance programs in your area or visit mnbenefits.org for additional resources.

How to Apply for Rental Assistance

To begin the application process:

Call 952-888-9616 ext. 147 and leave a voicemail for our Social Services team
Or email socialservices@veap.org.

Due to high demand, there may be a delay in returning calls. A VEAP case manager will contact you as soon as possible to complete a phone assessment and determine eligibility for financial assistance. We appreciate your patience as we work to serve everyone who reaches out.

What to Expect During the Screening Process

After you contact us:

  1. A case manager will return your call.

  2. We will complete a phone assessment.

  3. We will review eligibility for rental assistance funding.

  4. If eligible, we will discuss next steps and required documentation.

Funding for rental assistance comes from both public and private sources. VEAP does not require proof of citizenship to receive services. We will never ask for documentation regarding your immigration status. If you prefer not to receive publicly funded assistance, please let us know. We are happy to discuss available options.
