Join us for Future Light!
WHAT: A summer program for students entering 9th – 12th grade in Fall 2022. Students will have the opportunity to volunteer and learn about their community and issues that affect their neighbors.
- 24 hours of volunteering (breaks included)
- 4 educational sessions related to VEAP and the community, covering topics such as non-profit work, poverty, food insecurity, and housing insecurity
WHY: Students will get to learn about and support their community, meet other engaged program participants, and gain valuable skills through hands-on non-profit experience.
WHERE: VEAP, 9600 Aldrich Avenue South in Bloomington, 55420.
WHEN: 3 different sessions will be offered. Detailed program schedule below.
- Future Light Intensive
- Two weeks: June 21 – July 1
- Tuesday through Friday at VEAP
- 8 students, 24 volunteer hours, 4 educational hours
- Future Light Standard 1
- Four weeks: July 12 – August 4
- Tuesdays & Thursdays at VEAP (plus 1 Wednesday instead of 1 Thursday)
- 8 students, 24 volunteer hours, 4 educational hours
- Future Light Standard 2
- Four weeks: August 1 – August 24
- Mondays & Wednesdays at VEAP
- 8 students, 24 volunteer hours, 4 educational hours
Detailed Program Schedule
All volunteering will be in the onsite pantry (sorting food donations, fulfilling participant orders, and/or assisting with outdoor intake)
Snacks are provided, but lunch will not be provided. Students are encouraged to bring a sack lunch. Refrigerator and freezer space will be provided for storage.
